Case Study: Smart Pedestrian Crossing at Wangfujing Pedestrian Street, Beijing

Wangfujing, Beijing's iconic 892-meter commercial street, welcomes up to 600,000 visitors daily — and over 1.2 million during peak holidays. But as the district evolved, so did its challenges: a dangerous vehicle-pedestrian conflict point at the Jinyu Hutong intersection, disconnected north-south foot traffic, and a confusing wayfinding system.

To address these issues, TraffiClair launched an urban renewal project built around four principles: Safety, Intelligence, Green, and Humanity.

The centerpiece? A Smart Pedestrian Crossing System that uses connected intelligent devices to make crossings safer and more visible:

🚦 Integrated Pedestrian Signal — Combines standard signals with LED text displays, voice prompts, and countdown light bands for multi-sensory guidance.

🔊 Voice Prompt Posts — Synchronized red/green displays with audio alerts that warn pedestrians against crossing on red.

💡 In-Ground Traffic Lights — Embedded LED lights that mirror the pedestrian signal and auto-adjust brightness based on ambient light.

✨ Side-Emitting LED Road Studs — Illuminate toward approaching vehicles, syncing with traffic signals and adjusting brightness automatically.

➡️ Arrow-Shaped LED Ground Tiles — Dynamic directional indicators that guide pedestrians with animated green arrows.

The result: a safer, smarter, and more connected pedestrian experience — transforming a century-old commercial street into a model smart district for the modern era.
