FogGuide: System Architecture & Installation

Designed for installation on highways prone to fog, heavy rain, and low visibility, the FogGuide provides synchronous flashing, rear-end collision warnings, red-and-blue strobe alerts, and speed limit displays. It helps drivers spot vehicles ahead in poor weather, reducing rear-end collisions and other accidents.

📡 System Architecture

FogGuide communicates with the controller via a 433MHz LoRa mesh network.

  • Spacing: 20m per FogGuide
  • Controller density: 1 controller per 1km
  • Function: The controller reads visibility data from a sensor and activates FogGuides when visibility drops.
  • Cloud connectivity: Connects to the customer's cloud via 4G/5G or fiber, using standard or customized MQTT protocol.

🔧 Installation Essentials

1. Site Selection – Place the controller near the section center. Check conduit and communication access, and ensure adequate sunlight if using solar power.

2. Power Supply – AC remote supply is preferred for stability. Solar is viable where sunlight is sufficient.

3. Layout – Install devices every 3 guardrail posts (~21m) on both sides of the highway, staggered across opposite carriageways.

4. Mounting – Anti-theft mounts attach directly to guardrail posts. Bridges require extra posts — confirm quantity and type at order.

5. Communication – Choose 4G wireless or fiber optic between controller and cloud; specify at order.

6. Grounding – Ground resistance ≀4Ω, essential for AC-powered systems.

7. Optional Add-ons – Induction broadcasting units and visibility detectors available for integration.

From guardrail to cloud — a complete, scalable solution for low-visibility highway safety.
